Writer Wednesday – Meet Carrie Fancett Pagels!

Carrie headshot 2016Today we welcome Christian romance author Carrie Fancett Pagels to Writer Wednesday. I’m so delighted she agreed to be our guest – and here’s what she had to say about being here:

“Thanks for having me on, Margaret! I am tickled to be on your blog and I’m also happy to report that my new release, Saving the Marquise’s Granddaughter, received a Four Star review on RT Book Reviews, which will appear in the July issue!”

Wow! That’s amazing, Carrie – congratulations. And to everyone else, read on to learn a bit more about Carrie and her latest release.

What inspires you to write?

sunset in heart handsI write Christian historical romance and I believe God inspires me to write. Visiting places with rich history and also reading about godly people’s lives also inspires my writing!

Which type of romance do you love most, and why?

Christian historical romance because it rolls several of my favorite things together! I’m (hopefully!) getting spiritual arcs in the characters and story, historical tidbits, and a lovely clean romance.

What fellow romance author do you recommend reading, and why?

I think one author your readers might really enjoy is MaryLu Tyndall. MaryLu has a wide variety of books to choose from. She has the “in your face” books exploring dark spiritual forces that come against believers but she also has some clean reads that are super romantic. She writes with a depth of emotion and in a number of settings but she’s best known for her pirate stories with swoon-worthy heroes. My absolute fave book by her is Veil of Pearls, which I think would make a wonderful movie and I’d even recommended it to a producer whom I met at a conference!

learned SO MUCH when writing my brand new release, Saving the Marquise’s Granddaughter, that I couldn’t possibly cover it here.

But I’d like to share about a recent series. My Christy Lumber Camp series is set in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and in Northern Michigan, at the turn of the century. Since my family was from that area, and because I grew up there, I thought I had a good idea of how things were at turn of the century. The problem was I was getting that information mainly from lumberjacks and family members who’d worked at the state hospital there. I was quite shocked to discover the number of resorts for wealthy people at that time and also that the (now small) cities in the area had swelled during that time. The most startling bit of information was that one now very small town was so large it had three different newspapers at the time! And it had all kinds of industry and the highest level of society.

A Bit on Saving the Marquise’s Granddaughter:

Saving The Marquise's GranddaughterIn a land fraught with religious strife, they must break the barriers between status and faith to forge a fresh future in a new world…

After her Huguenot father is arrested, aristocrat Suzanne Richelieu escapes Versailles. Handsome German peasant, Johan Rousch, risks his life to bring her to the safety of his family’s farm in the Palatinate duchy, but when Suzanne’s brother and the French army arrive with a warning that they plan to burn the area, she and Johan are forced to flee.

With no money or options, both become indentured servants in exchange for safe passage to Philadelphia. Suzanne falls gravely ill aboard ship and marries Johan, only to survive with no memory of the wedding—a reality made worse when Johan spots the “priest” who married them working as a surveyor and later in Quaker cleric garb. Are their wedding vows valid?

When Suzanne’s former fiancé arrives in port, planning to abduct her, Johan must save her again—but can he do so before Suzanne is lost to him forever?
