Writer Wednesday: Meet Caryn McGill!

carynmOh, the spring weather has arrived at last, and it is glorious here in Virginia!

You know what else is glorious? Having fellow Virginia Romance Writer Caryn McGill here for Writer Wednesday! Caryn is such a fun and sweet lady, and I’m so proud to be able to share her with you today. So please read on to learn more about Caryn and her provocatively titled new book, The Wives of Lucifer. (I totally want to read that based on title alone. Don’t you?)

MusicButterflyWhat inspires you to write?

Music, TV, and film inspire me. A simple lyric can spark a story. I’m a big fan of the “what if” method. I take an anecdote, story or real-life situation and wonder what would happen if I just blow it up. Where will the pieces fall? What would I do in that situation? The possibilities are mind-boggling. And fun!

PrintWhich type of romance do you love most, and why?

Paranormal and erotica are my favorites to read and write. I guess it’s because they are so far removed from reality…pure fantasy.

Name one interesting thing you learned in researching/writing your last book:

Since I mostly write in the paranormal genre I am continually astonished by how traditionally people think. They’ve never colored outside the lines of religion or their upbringing. Never question what could be…other possibilities. Even if we’ll never prove anything one way or the other it’s healthy to question our beliefs. As a scientist, I’ve always questioned…everything.

What one piece of advice do you wish you’d had when first starting out?

Work with a professional editor as soon as you can. I spent a lot of time with critique partners and informal groups who were helpful but can’t compare to a pro. A pro will get you there faster. But be prepared, it can be brutal and you have to keep an open mind. Also, the professionals in the biz know the markets and you need to heed their advice. It’s still your story but ruminate seriously on constructive criticism.

wivesA Bit On The Wives of Lucifer (New Adult Paranormal romance):

Olivia loves her new immortal life, her friends and especially Drew; she never thought she’d fall in love on the other side of death. But when Olivia learns she bears the mark of Lucifer and has powers that tie her to the Underworld, she worries that perhaps she’s done terrible things in her past lives and dark secrets are being kept from her. And those damn wives, what do they want from her? Olivia endures unspeakable tragedy in The Wives of Lucifer and when she discovers what fate has in store for her…she suddenly understands that being immortal doesn’t guarantee you’ll live forever.
