Psst. It’s Dr. Seuss’s birthday. It’s also MY birthday.

So it’s with great celebratory fervor, possibly fueled by an overconsumption of carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, that I bring you Elisabeth Joye as today’s Writer Wednesday guest.

Elisabeth writes erotic romance, and is here to, ah, expose a little about herself, and her latest work, Invisible Ink. 🙂

What inspires you to write?

I was inspired to write Invisible Ink by my love of going to concerts…and my love of a specific rock star in particular. My number one rule in writing the book was for the scenes themselves to turn ME on, so I guess you could say that is another of my inspirations. If I wasn’t turned on, it didn’t make it in the book.

Which type of romance do you love most, and why?

I like things dirty…but not pornographic. I write in the erotic romance genre, and that’s what I most love to read. More specifically, I like romance that surprises me and doesn’t follow the typical formula. I also love an alpha, not a nice guy.

Name two things people don’t know about you:

As a reporter, I once slept on the floor of a city manager’s office during a hurricane in Florida. I also had one of my first jobs fitting bras at Victoria’s Secret.

What one piece of advice do you wish you’d had when first starting out?

Self-publishing is mostly about self-promotion, and it’s a lot of work. But it’s worth it. Don’t worry about submitting your work to a traditional publisher or even one of the indie romance publishers. Chances are not great you will get accepted — especially if you write short stories or novellas. Instead, just bite the bullet, find an editor and self-publish. Don’t waste time waiting for rejection letters.

And now, a bit on Invisible Ink:

invisibleinkLex has never felt more exposed.

She has just allowed Jake Reed, the lead singer of rock band Inkjet, to undress her and tie her to a chair backstage after a show, only to have him leave to go sign autographs.

It is the start of a dark, obsessive relationship that will lead Lex, a 20-something public relations professional from L.A., to lose herself almost entirely as she struggles to break through her sexual boundaries without falling in love with Jake, an intimidatingly gorgeous Hollywood actor/rock star who closely guards his emotions.

What starts as a series of casual hookups ends up a powerful addiction that will push Lex past all her sexual boundaries as Jake moves repeatedly in and out of her life, making few promises along the way. Lex fights to keep a sense of herself while she succumbs to Jake’s glamorous world and his irresistible allure.

Author Bio:

writingElisabeth Joye used to write about Congress. Now, she writes about sex. A former political journalist, she’s wanted to write a romance novel since she was 12 and finally found the inspiration to do it by incorporating her love of concerts and musicians. Invisible Ink is her first self-published novella.

Elisabeth’s philosophy when writing romance is simple – she writes what she thinks is hot and hopes others will, too. She wants to create characters who speak, act and fall in love like real people with issues, flaws and fears. But, above all, the sex is got to be hot.

When she’s not writing, Elisabeth is a stay-at-home mom to her four-year-old son. She loves fangirling her favorite celebrities and reading true crime obsessively. She didn’t have a smartphone until 2013 and now couldn’t live without social media and text messaging. She lives in the Midwest with her husband and family.
