Writer Wednesday: Meet Caryn McGill!

carynmOh, the spring weather has arrived at last, and it is glorious here in Virginia!

You know what else is glorious? Having fellow Virginia Romance Writer Caryn McGill here for Writer Wednesday! Caryn is such a fun and sweet lady, and I’m so proud to be able to share her with you today. So please read on to learn more about Caryn and her provocatively titled new book, The Wives of Lucifer. (I totally want to read that based on title alone. Don’t you?)

MusicButterflyWhat inspires you to write?

Music, TV, and film inspire me. A simple lyric can spark a story. I’m a big fan of the “what if” method. I take an anecdote, story or real-life situation and wonder what would happen if I just blow it up. Where will the pieces fall? What would I do in that situation? The possibilities are mind-boggling. And fun! Continue reading Writer Wednesday: Meet Caryn McGill!

Writer Wednesday: Meet Annette Bower!

AnnetteBWe most heartily welcome contemporary romance author Annette Bower to today’s Writer Wednesday!

It’s a joy and pleasure to have her here on what is a rather chilly spring day in Virginia. I hope the weather is better where you are. But wait – who cares about the weather when there’s romance to discuss?? So read on…

Thank you, Margaret, for hosting me today on Writer Wednesday.

You ask what inspires me to write and my answer is relationships.

coupleRecently while on a trip, I captured this couple that provided story questions.

In this picture both people are looking in the same direction. His hand is on her thigh. Her hand is covering his, her knee is pointed toward him, and her dangling shoe indicates she’s relaxed and if she thrusts her foot in and out of the shoe, it provides a phallic sign. Therefore, she may have more invested in this relationship right now. She seems to indicate that she’s feeling all loving and ready for love. Other than his hand on her thigh, his knee is pointed away from her toward what is happening. He seems removed for the moment. My question to myself is what happened before this moment and what is happening now and what will happen in the next hour? (Reference: The Definitive Book of Body Language by Allan and Barbara Pease.)

As you can tell by what inspires me to write, it is also gaining knowledge. Continue reading Writer Wednesday: Meet Annette Bower!

It’s Good To Get Off The Interstate, In Life And In Writing…

MountainViewUsually, the monthly Virginia Romance Writers meetings take place in Richmond. To get there, I simply hop on interstates 81 and 64, and two hours later, I’ve arrived. It’s fast. It’s familiar. It’s not particularly relaxing.

This past weekend, the VRW meeting happened in Fredericksburg. Let me tell you, there is no direct interstate route between Harrisonburg and Fredericksburg. Oh, I could take interstates, but it’d actually tack time onto the trip. Instead, I dutifully followed Google and traversed the smaller highways, 33 and 20.

It was heavenly. It was stunning. It was an unexpectedly delightful experience, both coming and going. Continue reading It’s Good To Get Off The Interstate, In Life And In Writing…

LindaBWahoo for Writer Wednesday!

old-books-11281939505MsrnWhat inspires you to write?

Reading great books! There’s something magical about getting lost in a world someone else has created and growing to love (or not!) their characters. Romance novels especially, with their hopeful, happily ever after endings, often leave *me* feeling hopeful and happy. That a bunch of words on a page can do that is so powerful and so amazing to me. I write romances for teens, and I believe today’s teens especially need to find stories that give them hope and show them different perspectives on life and love.  Continue reading Writer Wednesday: Meet Linda Budzinski!
